CourseVis - Discussions plot

discussion plot

In this example a 3D scatterplot represents data about students discussions throughout the course. The dimensions of the plot are time, topics and students. A sphere represents a new thread of discussion, initiated by the student on a specified date and topic. An additional dimension, the color and size of the sphere, represents the number of follow-ups in that thread.

Graphics can be rotated to focus on a particular aspect. See for instance the previous two rotations that enable the analysis of different relations by examining the same data set. The first one represents the discussion threads opened by each student during the course, while the second one presents the discussed topics.

These two pictures allow an useful comparison on discussions between two different editions of the course.
